DAY 17: Today we lift up the Southern Saudi Arabian Peninsula countries of Yemen; Oman; United Arab Emirates; Qatar; Bahrain

You are a Merciful God…

O Lord, I thank you that you are merciful.  I am thankful that you set aside the penalty of the law and thus do not give me what I deserve.  The penalty of sin is death, but you are merciful and gave your Son as the atonement for my sin.  Because of the gift of your Son Jesus Christ, we are able to “approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Heb. 4:16)…

Lord, reveal to me any form of pride, lack of love, unforgiveness, or bitterness….

Please show me any unholy practices or areas of disobedience to you…..

“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love…blot out my transgressions…and cleanse me from my sin” (Psalm 51)….

Thank you Lord for forgiving and forgetting my sins….

Thank you for those things that you have already done in my life (even those things that don’t feel good)….

Thank you for the things that I know you will do….

Write down a few of the people, events or things that you are thanking Him for today:

(a) Pray for the world: Southern Saudi Arabian Peninsula: Yemen; Oman; United Arab Emirates; Qatar; Bahrain

Father, be with new believers from Muslim backgrounds who often face severe persecution from family and society as it is forbidden to convert.  Please protect the new converts from Islam who often face the death penalty under Shariah Law if their new faith is discovered.  Because of this fierce persecution, many choose to meet secretly.  Please provide the secret believers, who are often isolated and lack teaching, the resources to help them grow in their faith.  Allow the Christian literature to reach those who need it most because the governments of most these countries regulate the publication, importation, and distribution of non-Islamic religious books and materials.  I thank you that some Muslims are discovering Christ through the media and contacts with local believers.

Lord, pour out an extra measure of blessing for my brothers and sisters in Yemen who are suffering for your name. Please raise up righteous leaders who will allow all Yemeni Christians to worship in freedom. As you know, it is dangerous to openly become a believer in your son, Jesus Christ.  Lord, recently several of my brothers and sisters who were providing aid to Yemen were kidnapped and some were martyred by an unknown faction who accused them of doing missionary work.  I praise you for the faithful lives and work of those who were killed and ask that you comfort loved ones who are mourning their deaths.   I ask that you comfort, strengthen and reveal your presence in a mighty way to those who still remain missing.  Please intervene and move the hearts of the authorities to help get the remaining hostages released.  I pray that you give the Christians in Yemen endurance and wisdom.  I am thankful that Yemenis recognize the honesty in Christians, and this makes them open to hearing the gospel message.  Please shield the approximately 100 Yemenis who trust you in Christ as their Savior.

Lord, I ask that you soften the hearts of Oman’s sultan and his appointed cabinet so that they will allow freedom of religion.  Unfortunately Father, this country has no constitution, legislature, or political parties, so change does not seem imminent with my finite vision.  I am thankful that the law prohibits religious discrimination, but I ask that the governmental leadership lift the restrictions on Christian literature/multimedia resources.  Lord, strengthen the very small number of active churches (made up largely of foreign workers) and bless them as they seek to share the Gospel with the people of Oman.  Grant wisdom and favor to the missions agencies that are focusing on Oman.  Lord, help believers find new ways to distribute the New Testament and other Christian resources and allow these tools to produce lasting fruit.  Please bless and anoint the radio stations who broadcast Christian programming.  Lord, I thank you for the steady stream of conversions among Asians working in Oman.  Lord Jesus, awaken your people to your call in Oman to share the Gospel.  Strengthen, encourage, and protect the Omani Arab Christians. Lord, I ask for strong local churches to be planted among the Omani Arabs.  Provide these believers with opportunities to share the love of Christ with their own people.  Lord raise up prayer teams who will begin to prepare the hearts of the people through worship and intercession.

Lord, I thank you for the leadership of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).  I am grateful that their constitution provides for freedom of religion, although only foreign Christians may worship Christ and witness freely to the indigenous UAE citizens.  Give Christians wisdom as they seek ways to share the Gospel with Muslim believers (evangelizing Muslims is strictly forbidden).  Open the airwaves so that Christian satellite TV and internet sites will reach those who have not yet heard about you, Jesus.  Lord, please bless the Christian medical agencies who are allowed to operate and show Christ’s love to the people of the U.A.E. through selfless service (although evangelistic work must not be overt).

Lord, I pray that expatriate churches will awaken to see the plentiful harvest that you have set before them (80% of the population are foreign workers).  Please set their hearts on fire with a love for you and a passion to share the Good News through the testimony of their lives.  Lord, help the citizens the U.A.E. realize that their material possessions are from you.  Unsettle the hearts of the citizens who are rich in material wealth, so that they will not be satisfied with earthly riches, but instead seek heavenly riches through Jesus, the greatest treasure to be found. Lord, awaken a hunger in the materially satiated youth of UAE so they may see that you, Jesus, are only true source of life and satisfaction.

Lord, thank you for softening the hearts of those in the Qatar government who signed a  fifty-year lease with representatives of Christian churches for a large piece of property in the capital Doha for the purpose of erecting six churches at the churchs’ expense.  Please allow this area to be a beacon of light to the nation.  Guard and protect the believers from nominalism and immoral behavior which greatly reduces the impact of the Christian community for it will only be through godly living that believers may gain respect in the Muslim community and bring real blessing to the nation.  I ask that you provide avenues of Christian growth for the women of Qatar who live under very harsh rules.   We thank you for moving the hearts of the leaders to sign a new constitution explicitly providing for freedom of worship, of association and of public assembly though there are some restrictions. Our hope is that these recent signs of improvement will truly be seeds of religious freedom.   Please protect the believers who talk about their faith and give them wisdom as they talk to Muslims as proselytism of Muslims is forbidden.

Lord, you have blessed Bahrain with rich petroleum production and refining resources. Lord, I thank you for their huge expatriate work force (50% of labor force) which has helped this government be more tolerant towards foreign workers worshipping and practicing their faith.  Please soften the hearts the king and the leaders of this country to allow true freedom of religion because the freedoms for Christians are carefully restricted as it is illegal to hold a religious meeting without formal government permission and Christian websites are blocked.  Lord, open the hearts of the foreign believers so they will feel compassion on the Bahraini people who are lost.  Give them opportunities to share their faith through the testimony of their lives and their words.  Please give your believers wisdom as they witness, because people who witness openly pay a price.  Move the hearts of your people to start ministries and open up opportunities for the youth and children of Bahrain to experience the love of you, Jesus.  Lord, please move the hearts of more mature Christians to come along side and mentor new believers.  Open up the hearts of the Bahraini people to hear your message of the Gospel.

(b) Write down the names of people who you are praying for today (especially the unchurched):

(c) Pray for your personal needs:

“Give ear to my words, O Lord; give heed to my sighing.  Listen to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to you I pray.  O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I plead my case to you, and watch.” (Psalm 5)….

“For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever…Amen”
