DAY 12: Today we lift up the Western European countries of Bulgaria; Slovenia; Hungary; Romania; Slovakia; Czech Republic and Moldova

You are a Righteous God….

Lord, your very nature and actions are always morally right. You have set the standard of righteousness or “rightwiseness.”.   You alone are always right.  I know that “righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne (Psalm 97:2)…

Lord, reveal to me any form of pride, lack of love, unforgiveness, or bitterness….

Please show me any unholy practices or areas of disobedience to you…..

“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love…blot out my transgressions…and cleanse me from my sin” (Psalm 51)….

Thank you Lord for forgiving and forgetting my sins….

Thank you for those things that you have already done in my life (even those things that don’t feel good)….

Thank you for the things that I know you will do….

Write down a few of the people, events or things that you are thanking Him for today:

(a) Pray for the world: Western Europe: Bulgaria; Slovenia; Hungary; Romania; Slovakia; Czech Republic and Moldova

Lord, I lift up these former communist countries who have freed from tyranny and repressive policies, but poverty, unemployment, corruption and powerful organized crime syndicates persist. Lord, I pray for renewal for the churches of these countries which are rapidly declining into irrelevance.  People are seeking answers through materialism, hedonism, alcoholism and, increasingly, false religions that blend different beliefs including occult activity (including pagan witchcraft), Eastern mysticism, New age, ancient Magyar shamanism and Tibetan Buddhism.  I pray that all falsehoods and empty philosophies will be exposed to the truth of Christ.

Lord I pray for the Protestant and evangelical churches of Bulgaria, Slovenia, Hungary and Romania who have an unhealthy dependence on outside money.  Father, open the hearts of your believers to the blessings of stewardship so that they can support their local pastors and missionaries.  Lord, raise up ministries that will provide leadership development in churches as many new churches lack a pastor, and many pastors lack training.

Lord, I pray for wholeness to come to Hungary as only the transforming gospel can bring. I grieve for the fact that there are more abortions than live births.  Lord, send renewal and new life to the Orthodox church so that your people will awaken to the presence of Christ.  Please bring true unity amongst believers of different ethnic and denominational backgrounds as this could be a powerful testimony.  I pray for wise leaders and a biblically knowledgeable Church to discern false doctrine as there are many churches with heretical doctrine and extreme “prosperity” teachings.  Lord,Sofia, the capital and Bulgaria’s only large city, has many churches, but more are needed so that this influential city will be saturated with the gospel.  Father, raise up missionaries to reach out to the Rumelian Turks and Millet, (an oppressed Turkish-speaking Gypsy minority) who often come to faith through dreams, visions and healings and the Romani.  Currently there are more Muslim missionaries than Christian ones and I pray for Christian missionaries to reach out toBulgaria’s 900,000 Muslims so that they will discover the living Christ.

Lord I ask you to awaken Slovenes from their spiritual apathy and draw them into a personal relationship with Christ.    I pray for unity among believers and for them to rise to the challenge of personal evangelism and stewardship so that they can support their own pastors and even to send missionaries. I pray for proper translations of the Bible and Christian books into Slovene which is a difficult language to translate.

Lord, I lift up Hungary which has become increasingly difficult to openly witness – restrictions forbid teachers, doctors and such from sharing their faith in the workplace.  Please send your Holy Spirit to bring revival and renewal to all denominations.   Lord, I pray for Spirit-led, creative forms of witness and for wisdom in how, when and where to reach out.  Lord, raise up visionary leaders with high morals who will model the life and love of Christ.  I pray that you will raise up missionaries to reach youth, the more than 30,000 homeless in Budapest, the Romani and Jewish populations.

Lord, continue to bless Romania which is predominantly Orthodox, but hasEurope’s fourth largest evangelical population and this despite an overall decline in population. Yet, there is still brokenness from the days of Ceausescu’s repressive regime and there is widespread substance abuse, prostitution, pornography, human trafficking, thousands of orphaned children and one of the highest abortion rates in the world (>3 abortions per live birth). Lord, continue to bless the Lord’s Army renewal movement within the Orthodox Church and I pray that this movement will inspire similar movements in other nations.  Please continue to send renewal to your people and awaken those whose faith lies dead or dormant.  Open the eyes of believers to the suffering around them and provoke them to minister to their broken communities.

Lord, please bless Slovakia which enjoys a strong Christian heritage, but many people are nominal Christians and rarely attend church.  Joining the European Union has brought Increasing wealth (for some), but has been accompanied by the new influences of materialism, moral relativism, depression and increased suicide rates (among the highest in Europe).  Lord, please raise up believers who will boldly speak of your hope and love.  I ask for you to expand and increase recent renewal movements, especially among Lutherans as they focus on young people and small groups (Family Fellowships). I pray that the strong foundation of Christianity in Slovakia would be brought to vibrant life by a new move of the Holy Spirit.  Lord, give your leaders vision and stamina as they seek to plant thousands of new congregations so that each town will have a church.  I pray for peace between the Hungarian Slovakians (10% of population) and ethnic Slovakians as tensions persist over minority rights and language use.

Lord, I pray for you Church in the Czech Republic which is declining and numbers and becoming increasingly irrelevant.  Yet in the midst of this, the Czech churches are sending missionaries to several countries in Europe and around the world (which is an answer to prayer).  Lord I pray that you will soften the hearts of Czech people so that the growing trend of atheism will be reversed (40% atheistic in 1991:  60% atheistic in 2001; and 71% non-religious in 2010).  Lord, raise up missionaries and ministries to reach the Czech people so that they will realize that peace can only be found in you.  I am thankful for the recent trends in alternative forms of Christian fellowship and discipleship (small congregations, house churches and cell groups) that are bearing fruit.  I pray for enthusiastic workers to serve creative youth outreach ministries that combine teaching English and summer camps.

Lord, I thank you that Moldova remains very fertile ground for the gospel, and believing churches continue to grow and multiply.  Yet, the influence of the Orthodox Church makes evangelical work difficult because there is great opposition (frequently violent) when preaching and planting churches in traditionally Orthodox villages.  Lord, I pray for unity between believers of all denominations so that more Moldovans will come to know Jesus as their personal Savior.  Lord, I ask you to raise up ministries that will serve the great number of people who live in poverty.  Lord, I ask for protection for the large number of Moldovans (about 25% of the population) who seek to work abroad as they are often exploited and lured abroad into human trafficking rings (Moldova is the source for the largest numbers of young women in human trafficking rings).  I pray that you will bless the Gagauz (Turkish Orthodox Christians) and Moldovan missionaries who have a vision to reach Muslims both in Moldova and in Eurasia.

(b) Write down the names of people who you are praying for today (especially the unchurched):

(c) Pray for your personal needs:

“Give ear to my words, O Lord; give heed to my sighing.  Listen to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to you I pray.  O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I plead my case to you, and watch.” (Psalm 5)….

“For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever…Amen”
