DAY 4: Today we lift up the South American countries ofColumbia; Venezuela; French Guiana; Suriname; Guyana; Ecuador and Peru

You are the Self-sufficient and Self-existent God…

By your great power you sustain yourself.  No other power is needed for your existence. ..

You have said, “For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself.” (John 5:26). “In Jesus Christ was life, and that life is the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. “ (John 1:4,5)…created the world out of nothing…”When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established; what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor” (Psalm 8)…

Lord, reveal to me any form of pride, lack of love, unforgiveness, or bitterness….Please show me any unholy practices or areas of disobedience to you…..

“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love…blot out my transgressions…and cleanse me from my sin” (Psalm 51)….

Thank you Lord for forgiving and forgetting my sins….

Thank you for those things that you have already done in my life (even those things that don’t feel good)….Thank you for the things that I know you will do….

Write down a few of the people, events or things that you are thanking Him for today:

(a) Pray for the world: South America(Northern Coastal) Columbia; Venezuela; French Guiana; Suriname; Guyana; Ecuador and Peru

Lord, I pray for godly leadership of these countries.  I especially pray the countries of Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela will find your peace amidst the violence.  Let this violence awaken them to the fact that peace can only be found through a relationship with your Son, the Christ.

Father, I pray for your church in these countries.  Fill them with evangelistic zeal so that they may overcome denominational lines and be effective witnesses of the gospel message.  Lord, raise up ministries that can help disciple your believers to be effective witnesses with both their words and their lifestyle.  There is an immense need for pastoral training and solid Bible theology so that false teaching and doctrinal confusion does not permeate the church.  In addition, lay leaders need to be discipled so that they can effectively reach out to the indigenous tribes as well as the under evangelized upper-class.

I lift up Venezuela which bears the title of “the least church going nation in Latin America.”  Over 84% of the country identifies themselves as Christian and yet less than 10% go to church.  Lord, I ask that you awaken them from their slumber so that they can turn to you as their first love.

Lord, I pray that your truth to be revealed to the indigenous tribes of these nations.  I pray for missions to the animist tribes of French Guiana who are the least evangelized of all the tribes.  Surprisingly, there are still many tribes without a Bible in their own language.  So, I lift up the over Bible translation projects that are working to bring the Bible to over 70 language groups in these countries.  In fact in Ecuador, there are still people who the Bible by hand, verse-by-verse.

I ask that Christians hear your call to serve as missionaries to Suriname(23% Hindu, 17% Muslim) and Guyana(30% Hindu, 10% Muslim).    Please raise up believers who can effectively evangelize to these groups so that they will realize that eternal life begins here on earth the moment when Jesus Christ is accepted as our personal savior.

Lord, today I lift up the persecuted church in Columbia.  I ask that you soften the hearts of the Marxist guerrilla group Armed Revolutionary Forces of Colombia (FARC) who have killed more than 300 evangelicals and displaced hundreds. Guerrillas and paramilitary see Christians as a threat to their recruitment of young men and women into their groups which in turn makes the churches a target. Many pastors have been assassinated or left the country.  Missionaries are targets of kidnap, murder and extortion.  Recent reports indicate that members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) have conducted internal searches to discover if there are Christians in their ranks. Sources say “many of their own” have been killed after they were discovered to profess faith in Jesus Christ.  This year, the mother of an 11-year-old girl named Grace was shot to death by the FARC for leading devotions in her home. Grace’s pastor father had been killed by the FARC just a year earlier. Father I ask for protection and an extra measure of courage and faithfulness for the new believers and lay leaders.

Lord, allow your spirit to descend upon these dark forces of the enemy “to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in [Christ].”  Acts 26:18.

(b) Write down the names of people that you are praying for today (especially the unchurched):

(c) Pray for your personal needs

“Give ear to my words, O Lord; give heed to my sighing.  Listen to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to you I pray.  O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I plead my case to you, and watch.” (Psalm 5)….

“For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever…Amen”
